Crossing through the medieval town of Gruyères with its cobbled streets and ring of old buildings, lying at the foot of the Moléson, Dents de Broc, du Chamois and du Bourgo. Bridges of timber and stone over the wild waters of the Saane.

Section 2 Bulle–Fribourg: 35 km
Forests and pastures to the summit of the Gibloux. Easily reached telecommunications tower with 360 degrees panoramic view. On along the Kapellenpfad trail through richly varied meadow and cultivated landscapes. Impressive rock faces on the Saane river.

Start in beautifully-conserved, historic Fribourg; off the major traffic routes, through peaceful cultured landscape to the lake shore. Sightseeing attractions along the way: Greng (18th century castle) and a little further on, the obelisk commemorating the Battle of Murten.
