With its romantic flower-bedecked wooden houses, its castle ruins, and the rushing waterfall, Jaun is the last stop before the Jaun mountain pass.
Jaun is the only German-speaking village in the Gruyère district and was totally cut off from the outside world until 1870.

Nature lovers are totally in their element in Jaun. There are no fewer than 15 half-day and whole-day hiking routes waiting to be discovered. And a wide range of winter sports opportunities are also available.

The Cantorama
The oldest village map of Jaun dates back to 1782, the "Old Church" was already recorded in documents from 1228. Nowadays the Old Church is home to the Cantorama, the choir museum whose role it is to document Fribourg's rich and lively culture of choral music.

The cemetery
A unique and unusual attraction is the cemetery with its individually carved wooden crosses illustrating the life of each person buried there.

The Gold Rush
Although it has no more than 750 inhabitants, Jaun has many original aspects in its history: between about 1864 and 1886 it was caught up in a gold rush, but the search for gold was unsuccessful. Two gold mines still remain to this day as a reminder.
