The charming mountain village of Charmey offers numerous attractions: the Gruyère spas, many chapels, the «Musée du Pays et Val de Charmey» and La Valsainte, the last Carthusian monastery in Switzerland. The Alpine cheese dairy on the scenic mountain, Vounetz (1627m), reached by aerial cableway, still makes Le Gruyère AOC cheese in the traditional way.
The most spectacular part of the hike begins shortly after Charmey, at Lac de Montsalvens. The route leads via wooden bridges and rock galleries through the wild gorge of the Jaunbach. The route continues over the «Le Pont qui branle» wooden bridge to Gruyères, home of the famous Gruyère AOC cheese.
