It’s official: 2011 is the “Year of Hiking”! Discover the 32 hiking trails specially selected by Swiss Tourism. There are also lots of events organised as part of the “Trophée suisse de la randonnée 2011” (Swiss Hiking Trophy) that offer free guided hikes for Switzerland’s Top 12 trails!

This pilgrimage does not always have to lead to Santiago de Compostela – an impressive section of the Way of St. James is the ViaJacobi, a five hour walk from Schwarzenburg to Fribourg. This stretch is considered the most exciting part of the Way of St. James in Switzerland and has been used by the Jakobspilger - the St. James pilgrims - since the Middle Ages.
