A new activity: the ski-snowshoe
This is a first in Switzerland; the tourist office of Charmey is offering a new activity for the snow with ski-snowshoeing.
From the thin layer at the first snowfall or late season snow and end of season spring snow are the ideal conditions for ski-snowshoeing. The configuration of the terrain of Charmey and more widely Fribourg Pre-Alps is ideal for winter hiking with ski-snowshoes. The gentle slopes, signposted paths* for snowshoe trails are suitable terrains and available to all. The technique is learnt after a day; a few gentle tumbles are expected. Have a good time with family, friends and colleagues and have a laugh.
The advantage of the ski-snowshoe is its simplicity. No need for ski boots. A good pair of walking boots or winter boots is enough. The steps are more fluid and the descents become a real experience. While the snow takes its time to arrive at the beginning of winter, ski-snowshoeing can be done with a thin layer of snow. Furthermore, it can be practiced up until the last snow at Easter. So we believe that ski-snowshoeing can extend winter activities, even when the ski lifts are closed.
