Montsalvens Lake round tour
Why not explore the banks of the Lac de Montsalvens, an ideal hike for families.
Due to wood cutting, a detour has been installed on the route until january 2019. Please look at the map for more information.
A shady tour with a wooden footbridge (60 m long), picnic spots and a dam in the form of an arch.
At the foot of the Dents Vertes and the Dent de Broc mountain ranges, a lush green landscape envelops the stunning Lake Montsalvens.
From Charmey, head towards the church and the shopping centre, following signs for «Presqu’île». Cross the 60-metre-long footbridge and follow the path to Montsalvens dam (1 h). From there, continue your walk around the lake. Alternatively, you could choose to continue to walk towards the La Jogne gorge (Alternative A).
If you choose the lake circuit, you will cross the dam and continue along the path that follows the lake shore. This will take you to La Monse chapel - the highest point on the trail. Finally, walk down towards the lake to rejoin the path which runs along the shore line. It will take you back to the start of the trail. This is an easily walkable trail that can be undertaken in either direction. It offers a great opportunity to explore the wonderfully diverse landscape and stunning flora of the Pre-Alps.
